Has culture and society repressed our natural sexuality?
« on: November 17, 2010, 09:43:42 PM »
If so, why and how? It seems to me that our culture suppresses sexuality while also cultivating it in hidden ways.

They always want to put a label on something which I think represses how natural sexuality because we fear being stereotyped or something

It has, and it is confusing how and why. So much history, but mostly it is for social control. Leaders didn't want the population going crazy with too many babies that no one took care of. That is really what it comes down to.

Oh yes, for sure... Our culture has made anything sexual taboo. Why do things like this have to be hidden, everyone sucks and everyone fu**s. Get over it and just let people be.

yea selling the idea of not having sex still puts the idea of sex into people and plenty of advertisements know that and do it so they don't look bad while still making people associate them with sex

Most sexually repressed country on the planet. It's like a joke. There are island tribes that are more sexually aware than the US.

Because there are so many teen pregnancies and STD's the media thinks they need to protect us by supressing our sexuality. If we were more open with our youth about it i think the circumstances would be different.

both, i think. there's so much sex underlying all types of music and movies and they glorify it. but on the other hand we're supposed to not talk about it, many people still treat it as taboo. who knows. not like 16 & pregnant is helping....

I think our media uses it to sell things, but until I heard my friend talk about Red-Light districts in other countries, I had no idea how prude-ish America really was.  We snub our noses to a lot of sexuality.
